In the Barnyard

Trifextra:  Week Sixty-Seven

On to the weekend challenge.  This weekend we want you to give us 33 words (exactly) that include among them at least one example of onomatopoeia.  When looking for a good page to link to in order to help describe the device, we stumbled upon our very own Apoplectic Apostrophes' post on literary devices.  Check it out if you need help remembering how onomatopoeia work.

Cows mooing loudly.

Tails thump, lazily swatting flies.

The bull snorts, spoiling for a fight.

The crunch of hay.

The telltale squish as I forget to watch where I’m walking.

Ahhh, farm life.

"Do you taste like chicken?"

  1. OOOH, this was so good.
I could smell those cows and I could feel that squish of "oh my god , what did I just step in??"

I'm not much of a farm girl, but I felt like one reading this.

    have a great weekend

    1. Ha ha...believe it or not, you get used to the smell and the squishing doesn't even slow you down. You tend to lose your sensitivity when you live on a farm. Oh, the stories I could tell you... ;)

  2. My grandparents raised cows when I was young. I learned quickly to watch where I walked if in their field.

  3. Your post goes nicely with Lance's response this week! I like living near the forest, and I like nature, but I'm definitely not a farm girl. The thought of getting the squish off my shoe. Ew. :)

  9. yes, I'd much rather hear the sound the hay made when something's underfoot - very sense-invoking read :)
Btw, I can't get your site to recognize my Wordpress ID??? "Your OpenID credentials could not be verified." Of course, I had that same problem when I tried to hand the bouncer my enhanced-license at the age of 16 too. (Perhaps it's a run-over.) -jody

  10. Eww-stepped in what?lol!Lovely piece Nenna-took me back right to my childhood where we did experience a little of these things as one of our neighbours had some buffaloes& we purchased milk from them-they later became damned rich & opened up a modern dairy farm on the outskirts of our town:-)
